How I see the Engineering Job Market

I was recently at a career fair on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). It just so happens that candidates with an EET degree from USM have historically been a very good fit for some of the test and repair technician jobs at Diversified Technology. In the past, we’ve had good success recruiting from USM, and the number of EET grads has been plentiful. The career fair was held in the recently completed Thad Cochran Center which is one of the most impressive facilities, bar none, that I have recently been in. So, after taking the escalator to the third floor and being escorted to our assigned table, we proceeded to set up our area and waited for the throngs of engineering students to arrive. And how could they resist? Our booth had all the ingredients to attract interested techies (i.e. free t-shirts, computer boards on display, mesmerizing video of pick-and-place machines, and posters advertising job openings.) The snapshot below was taken just before the career fair began. I’m the one hiding behind the monitor.
